Cllr Toireasa Ferris.

A TRALEE Municipal District councillor expressed her condemnation after a video of an assault on a girl in a Tralee alleyway was uploaded to social media in the past day.

The video, seen by TraleeToday.ie, features a 14 year old being hit about the head repeatedly and pulled around by the hair by another girl of around the same age. The incident occurred in the alleyway off Denny Lane.

A crowd of their peers look on and do nothing stop the assault. The video was uploaded to social media but has since been taken down.

The incident was brought up during Tuesday morning’s Tralee Municipal District meeting at Kerry County Council by Sinn Fein’s Cllr Toireasa Ferris, during a discussion on a separate issue of anti-social behaviour.

“We should condemn, as a local authority, the video that is circulating of a vicious assault on a young girl. It is not a reflection of this town or the people in it.”

She said that is was a reflection on some young people in this country who think this kind of behaviour is appropriate and that it is okay to record it and to further humiliate the victim.

The video has been seen by many people on social media. Tralee Gardaí received a formal complaint about the incident this afternoon and are now investigating.
