Cllr Jim Finucane Will Not Run For Council At Next Local Elections

THE Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council has decided he will not run for office in the next local elections due to be held in 2024.

Fine Gael’s Tralee Municipal District Cllr, Jim Finucane, informed party members of his decision at a meeting last night.

The Tarbert native originally got involved in Young Fine Gael in the late 70s while living in Dublin. On returning to Kerry, he successfully ran for Tralee Town Council in 1986 and would spend the next 14 years in that local authority.

He took a break from politics for much of the Noughties but returned in 2009 when he was asked to run for the County Council and he has been reelected twice since then.

Cllr Finucane said he is committed to getting as much done for Tralee and the county in the remaining nine months he has left as Cathaoirleach.

Many tributes and well wishes have been expressed to Cllr Finucane from across all political parties since he made the announcement.
