TRALEE Municipal District Cllr Mikey Sheehy has called for one of the planned mass vaccination centres to be located in Tralee.

Cllr Sheehy moved an emergency motion at the January meeting of Tralee Municipal District this morning.

It read; “As a matter of urgency that this MD writes to the Minister for Health, the HSE and the South South West Hospital Group to highlight that Tralee is an ideal site for one of the countries 15 mass COVID19 vaccination centres.

“The town is geographically well situated to allow for the efficient rollout of the vaccine in the South West and is well served by University Hospital Kerry. Multiple sites in Tralee are well equipped to facilitate large volumes of traffic and people with both physical buildings and green field areas at both sites.”

Cllr Sheehy said Tralee has multiple sites equipped to facilitate a mass vaccination centre and geographically offers an ideal location to roll out the programme to the South West, including West Limerick and West Cork.

He said the fact that the town is also home to University Hospital Kerry ensures that medical personnel are available to over see the process.

  1. Matty O'Leary says:

Tralee and Killarney splitting the work load would make more sense as there is a North Kerry / South Kerry divide in reality as Kerry is a large county and people in Kenmare or Killorglin would be much better served by Killarney and anyone in Ballybunion or Dingle served by Tralee as North / South administration centres!

But, of course politicians seem always to think with vested political interests in mind, well done Cllr Sheehy?
