LABOUR councillor Terry O’Brien was delighted to be re-elected to the Tralee Municipal District of Kerry County Council, after the result of the seventh count for the Tralee Electoral Area put him over the quota.
Just four seats remain to be filled as Cllr O’Brien joined Cllrs Norma Foley and Toireasa Ferris as candidates elected.
Cllr O’Brien received 135 extra votes to get a total of 1,748 to exceed the quota of 1,625 (see full result below). He expressed his thanks to the people in the Tralee Municipal District.

“It’s been a long campaign but I’m obviously thrilled to be re-elected. I think it’s a privilege to serve the people, I got a very good vote and I had a great team and family behind me. I’m looking forward to the first meeting on June 7, there’ll be a new dynamic,” said Cllr O’Brien.
“I’m up a few hundred votes and I transfer well so there must be something nice about me,” he added, thanking his wife Teresa and his family for their support on the canvass over the past few months.
“My canvassers are a great bunch. The canvass can be great fun if you go about it in the right way and the right time. Don’t call during Coronation Street or the Champions League! I had my 12 year old kids with me this time and they enjoyed it, but I told them not to enjoy it too much!” he added, intimating that he’ll advise his twins Mark and Millie to stay away from politics.
Meanwhile, the wait goes on for Mikey Sheehy, Jim Finucane and Pa Daly who are in pole position to be elected with sitting councillor Sam Locke in seventh place hoping to take the last seat.
The seventh count at the John Mitchels GAA Complex, saw the votes of Ben Slimm of Labour distributed. The votes of Fianna Fail candidate Johnny Wall, who has now been eliminated — will be distributed for the eighth count.
