A TRALEE MD councillor is proposing a visit to the Connacht GAA Air Dome in Mayo to look at how a similar facility could be developed at the Fels Point site.

Fine Gael Cllr Jim Finucane was speaking at the online meeting of Tralee Municipal District of Kerry County Council on Tuesday morning.

The Air Dome in Mayo contains a fullsize indoor GAA Field, running track, fully equipped gym capable of accommodating 30 people at once and a portable stand. It is also able to transform into a venue for exhibitions, concerts and conferences.

Cllr Finucane said he had contacted Connacht GAA and they are open to facilitating a visit from Tralee MD councillors and officials.

Cllr Finucane said the cost of the Dome was €4.4m and can hold sports events and exhibitions. He said the Fels Point site (adjacent to The Rose Hotel) is a major asset in Council ownership and the local authority needs to look at finding a suitable use for it.

He said that, after discussing the matter with a number of businesspeople, it would not be a huge task to raise the funds for such a facility.

Cllr Finucane said the Council should visit the facility and see if it would be a suitable project for the Fels Point site.
