TWO young women are to do a skydive in August in aid of a great cause and to help raise funds, they will hold a coffee morning in town next week.

Rachel Walsh from Ballyheigue, and Úna O’Connell of Kilflynn, will take part in a skydive in aid of the Meningitis Research Foundation.

An Teach Beag bar in The Mall is the venue for a fundraising morning on Thursday, July 27, where people can enjoy tea, coffee and goodies in return for a donation.

“The cause is very close to both of us,” said Rachel, speaking to TraleeToday.ie in June. “I actually had meningitis twice, once when I was eight, and again when I was 18. It was bacterial meningitis and septicemia the first time, which is the more dangerous version of it. A lot more life threatening, but I was very lucky that it was caught very fast. My parents were lucky enough to know the symptoms to watch out for and brought me to the doctor in time.”

Spot prizes at the coffee morning include contributions from The Aquadome, Benner’s Hotel and a pair of Sharon Shannon tickets.

The girls have set up a gofundme page for people who wish to make a donation to the cause and are hoping to raise €1,000. All funds go directly to the charity to help them continue the work they have been doing. You can visit their GoFundMe page here
