A TRALEE woman is organising a coffee morning next Thursday to mark World Prematurity Day.

The event, on November 17, is being organised by Jennifer Kissane, following the birth of her and husband Greg’s premature baby boy Fionn in June, arriving six weeks early at 5lb 2.

Jennifer herself was born 12 weeks early at a tiny 2lb; both born in University Hospital Kerry and in the care of Emly Special Care Unit.

“The staff in Kerry University Hospital, must be commended for the care they provide, particularly to very small, very ill babies in Emly,” said Jennifer.

The coffee morning, in aid of  Irish Premature Babies Charity, will take place in the cafe at the Abbey Inn Bar and Restaurant, from 11am-2pm.

“There will also be some fabulous prizes raffled on the day that include dining vouchers, a mini photo shoot, a Christmas ham, jewellery vouchers and a few surprises! Businesses in Tralee have been very generous,” said Jennifer.

People can donate to her online campaign by clicking here. She has so far raised €280 for the charity.

Irish Premature Babies Charity is a primarily voluntary charity provides support, information and practical help to parents with premature babies in Ireland. The charity depends on fundraising.

Jennifer said the event would not be possible without the support of local businesses. Danny Leane from the Abbey Inn has kindly provided the perfect location in their cafe at the Abbey Inn, as well as sponsoring the teas and coffees.

The confectionery and sweet treats are being sponsored by Barrys Bakery, Tralee and by Heavenly Baked, Tralee. For anyone who wishes to donate they can do so directly to Irish Premature Babies at www.irishprematurebabies.com
