THE ‘Coiste Comóradh 1916 Trá Lí’ committee are hosting a fundraising quiz in Na Gaeil Clubhouse on Thursday, March 24, at 9pm.

It’s to raise funds as plans are now at an advanced stage for the Easter Commemoration events, due to take place in Tralee from April 22 – 24.

There will be a host of events taking place over the weekend in April including a choral recital in the Square on Friday, April 22, and on Saturday, April 23, the Square will be awash with old time activities including stalls, machinery, vehicles, Irish music and dancing.

It will also feature a sketch by Na Gaeil Scór na nÓg competitors. On Sunday, April 24, a number of bands will attend a grand parade featuring units of people marching as Irish Volunteers, Cumann na mBan and Fianna.

Several relatives of those who died in the Rising have contacted the organising committee indicating their intention to attend.

On Sunday,  the parade will assemble at the Rink, Basin Road, at 12.45pm where a bugle will sound the assembly as happened outside Liberty Hall in 1916.

After a brief ceremony, the parade will then March to O’Rahilly Villas on Strand Street and then to the Cahill Memorial in Cahill’s Park. After wreath laying ceremonies it will then proceed to Páirc an Phiarsaigh.

Here the attendants will be addressed and wreaths will be laid at the Pearse monument. The last post will be sounded, and the ceremonies will conclude with the singing of Amhrán na Bhfiann.

The general public are encouraged to take part in the parade on the Sunday and if you would like to support the efforts made by the committee, you can attend the fundraising quiz in Na Gaeil with a table of four costing €30.
