Coláiste Íde Student Wins ‘Young Translators’ Award

Principal of Coláiste Íde Áine Ní Chearbhaill and Hannah Ní Shearcaigh, 5th year student who won an EU Young Translators Award.

A STUDENT at a Kerry school will be recognised at an awards ceremony in Dublin in a couple of weeks.

Hannah Ní Shearcaigh of Coláiste Íde in Dingle won the “Young Translators, 2018” competition for Munster with the European Commission recently.

Hannah had to undertake a specific test for translating in December, under specific conditions as outlined the Commission.

Hannah received the fantastic news recently that her work was the best in Munster. Hannah has been invited to an awards celebration in Dublin on Monday, March 11 hosted by Seán Kyne, T.D.

The goal of the “Juvenes Translatores” competition is to promote language learning in schools and give young people a taste of what it is like to be a translator.

The competition is open to 17-year-old secondary school students and takes place at the same time in all selected schools across the EU.
