Competition To Get Your’s Pet’s Portrait And Help Irish Guide Dogs For The Blind

THIS Friday is Guide Dog Day, the Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind’s (IGDB) annual fundraising day around the country and the Tralee branch is rising to the occasion with a special idea.

This year, the cancellation of street collections and community fundraising means the charity will see a loss of between fifty to sixty percent in funds raised; that’s up to €3 million of the €5 million it will take to run the charity this year.

The Tralee Branch of IGDB’s  fundraiser came about at the end of a recent Zoom meeting of volunteers when the general chit-chat turned to how everyone was getting along.

Puppy raiser Niamh O’Regan flipped her phone around surprising everyone when she showed the amazing pet portraits she had just recently started to paint.

One of Niamh’s pet portraits.

Talented artist and animal lover, Niamh was encouraged by a friend to create her facebook group Niamh’s Pet Portraits and she will support the Pet Portrait Fundraiser for Guide Dog Day by presenting one lucky owner with a precious portrait painting of their pet.

Fundraiser details are on Irish Guide Dogs Tralee Branch Facebook and Instagram pages. It’s simple. Just say why your pet should be chosen, you can choose to nominate friends who’d love this for their pet and finally, you can donate your chosen amount either directly on the facebook fundraiser or on justgiving.com/fundraising/igdbpetportrait.
