Con Houlihan To Be Remembered In His Hometown With New Trail

THE annual remembrance day for Con Houlihan takes place in Castleisland on Saturday, September 30 and this year sees the the launch of the Con Houlihan Trail by Castleisland Chamber Alliance.

The trail consists of a short tour of Castleisland town taking in some of Con’s favourite places in the area. Fifteen plaques will be unveiled on the day highlighting some of Con’s most memorable quotes and giving snippets of information about Con, who passed away in 2012.

The Con Houlihan Trail has come to fruition with the support of Kerry County Council’s Community Support Fund.

Here is the schedule of events for the day at The River Island Hotel.

11.30am Light Refreshments

11.45am Welcome address

11.50am Presentation of awards for the Con Houlihan Creative Writing Competition Sponsored by Con Houlihan Remembrance Committee

12noon Panel Discussion On The Life of Con

12.45pm Guided Tour of The Con Houlihan Trail.

The Con Houlihan Remembrance Day Committee, under the chairmanship of Donal Murphy, will host a free (ticket only) concert featuring local artists and the Parish Choir at the Ivy Leaf Arts Theatre at 4.30pm. Tickets are available from Dan Casey 087-6870581 or Brian O Sullivan 086-8377832.

Castleisland Rugby Club will host a Munster General League Game between Castleisland and Crosshaven at the Castleisland Rugby Pitch at 6pm. There is also a BBQ at Castleisland Rugby Club at 6.30pm – Tickets €10.
