KERRY County Council is inviting submissions from members of the public on the draft masterplan for the development of Tralee Town Centre West and the Island of Geese (Denny factory) site in the town.

The draft plan, which was published earlier this month will be on public display and available online until 7 September as part of a wider public consultation on variations to the Tralee Town Development Plan (2009-2015).

The draft masterplan which was completed by Reddy Architecture and Urbanism provides an overarching design concept and architectural framework for the development of the area which includes the former Denny Bacon Factory site.

Submissions can be made to the Planning Department of Kerry County Council from this Thursday, August 2 until Friday, September 7.

The draft plan will be available to view on the council website, www.kerrycoco.ie and well as the dedicated Island of Geese website, www.theislandtralee.ie

Submissions will be presented in a report from the Chief Executive of Kerry County Council to the elected members for their consideration at the council’s monthly meeting in September.

The Mayor of Tralee, Cllr Graham Spring, encouraged members of the public to engage in the next phase of the consultative process on the Denny site and the wider area.

“The informal consultation process on this site drew 800 submissions from members of the public in 2016. This proves that there is very significant interest in this site and its development for the benefit of Tralee and the county. We are now entering a more formal, statutory consultation period and I encourage everyone to have their say.”

Mayor Spring added: “This draft plan is not designed to be overly prescriptive in relation to specific uses at locations within the site but provides for a mix of uses that will add vibrancy to the area. The redevelopment of this part of Tralee has the potential to be hugely transformative and will give a new lease of life to the town. I look forward to reading the submissions and encourage everyone to offer their feedback and opinions,” he said.
