KERRY County Council is this week publishing plans for the demolition of buildings and the clearance of the former Denny bacon factory site in Tralee.

The plans – which will be on public display until the end of November – provide for the clearance of the existing factory buildings, the retention of the red brick chimney at the centre of the site, and the provision of a landscaped open space area and ancillary site works.

The Part 8 statutory consultation process (under the Planning and Development Regulations) for the demolition of the factory at the Island of Geese has been commenced and once this public consultation phase has been completed the work will go out to the tender for the appointment of a contractor.

This is the latest phase in the redevelopment of the 2.3 acre site which was donated to the people of Tralee by Kerry Group in 2014. This statutory procedure follows a non-statutory consultation with members of the public during which over 600 individual submissions were received – these will shortly be presented to councillors in the Tralee Municipal District.

“This is another step forward in relation to this project which will ultimately see the revitalisation of the Island of Geese area of Tralee,” said Mike Scannell, Manager of the Tralee Municipal District. “The submissions received as part of this Part 8 process and those received in recent weeks during the informal consultation phase will all feed into a master-plan for this hugely important site.”

The plans will be available for inspection from Thursday, October 13 until Friday, November 24 2016 at the following locations:

• Kerry County Council, Tralee Municipal District, Town Hall, Prince’s Quay, Tralee, Co. Kerry.
• Kerry County Council, Planning Department, Room 13, Áras an Contae, Rathass, Tralee, Co. Kerry.
• Kerry County Council Websites www.kerrycoco.ie, www.theislandtralee.ie

Submissions and observations may be made in writing to the Capital Infrastructure Unit, Kerry County Council and received on or before 5pm on Friday, 9th December 2016.
