KERRY County Council has issued an update on the disruption to water supply to over 50,000 people yesterday and today.

The disruption was caused by a burst water main between the treatment plant at Lough Guitane and the Sheheree reservoir at about 5pm yesterday.

A statement on their social media pages this morning reads; “The mains break impacting the Central Regional Water Supply Scheme was repaired late last night and the water is slowly being turned on.

The filling of the pipes in the water network must be done in a slow and gradual manner to avoid further problems. This means it will take some time to have the water fully restored in the affected areas.

Water tankers are being deployed this morning across the affected areas. Locations will be posted shortly.”

More updates will be issued throughout the day. The areas affected are  Tralee, Fenit, Ballymacelligott, Firies, Farranfore, Castleisland, Castlemaine and surrounding areas.
