KERRY County Council’s Local Coordination Group, including representatives of An Garda Síochána, Kerry Fire Services, Kerry Civil Defence and the HSE, met again this morning to make preparations for Storm Callum and has reiterated its advise to members of the public, motorists, business and property owners to be prepared for high winds overnight on Thursday and early on Friday morning during Storm Callum.

The council has set up an emergency contact line on 066 7183588 which will be available from 10pm tonight and through the night and through which members of the public can report any issues. All serious emergencies should be referred to the emergency services on 999.

Fallen powerlines and electricity issues, where they arise, should be reported to ESB Networks on 1850 372 372.

The Status Orange Wind Warning is in effect from 10pm tonight until 9am on Friday.

Given the risk of fallen trees and other obstacles on roads, extreme care should be taken overnight on Thursday and during the morning work and school commute on Friday particularly in coastal areas and on higher ground where gusts are forecast to reach 130km/h.

The council is asking all homeowners, property owners and businesses to secure any loose items of furniture, hoardings, scaffolding, signage and items such as trampolines and bins, which would be vulnerable to strong winds.

The council will provide further updates through the media and on its social media channels on Twitter and Facebook. The council’s weather alerts page online can be accessed via the main Kerry County Council website, www.kerrycoco.ie
