Cllr Toireasa Ferris.

SHOPPERS and workers are still enjoying the free parking period in the town which continues up to and including Saturday.

However, a local councillor is hoping the Council consider giving vehicle-owners a further break.

Sinn Féin Cllr Toireasa Ferris has a motion before next Monday’s meeting of Tralee Municipal District asking the Council to consider cutting the pay parking period in Tralee.

She wants it shortened to 11am to 4.30pm daily – it’s currently 8.30am to 6.30pm so that’s a cut of four and a half hours or half the current period.

While it would certainly be a popular move among the public, it will be interesting to see the Council’s reply to the motion next Monday.

Sinn Féin Cllr Toireasa Ferris why complicate the matter!

Why not just half the fee charged all day!

Because people like the convenience of free parking.

LOL, no – people just do not want to pay for parking.

        Which is fine.

It maybe necessary for the town centres to compete with modern retail parks by having free parking too.

Besides, some studies on the matter show most pay and display schemes run at a defecate and have to be subsidised by state revenue via the same people paying for the parking tickets (kind of a double taxation).

Oops, excuse the bad type for “deficit”.
