KERRY County Council is to investigate sourcing funding to increase lighting on a stretch of the Lee Walkway.

At the online meeting of the Tralee Municipal District on Tuesday, Sinn Féin Cllr. Deirdre Ferris asked about any plans the Council have to increase lighting along the walkway behind the Aquadome up to Fels Point.

The 1.5km walkway has seen antisocial behaviour problems and calls have been made in the past for more frequent Garda patrols.

In reply, Council management said the Lee River Walkway received funding in 2012 under the Tourism Infrastructure Fund of the National Development Plan administrated by Fáilte Ireland to provide lighting along the eastern section for a distance of 0.55km.

The remaining section of footpath receives ambient lighting from neighbouring properties and businesses.

Tralee MD will discuss the lighting requirements of this location with the Public Lighting Department and investigate possible funding streams.
