A LOCAL Sinn Féin councillor has come up with an idea for employers to treat their staff this Christmas in place of the annual party which is highly unlikely to go ahead in its traditional form this year.

Tralee Municipal District Cllr Deirdre Ferris is calling on those in the business community (who are in a position to do so) to give employees a hamper or a takeaway meal instead.

“With the likelihood that Christmas parties will not be able to proceed like normal, perhaps those employers, who are in a financial position to do so, could purchase a hamper of a mixture of local produce or pay for a take away meal for their staff in place of their Christmas party,” said Cllr Ferris.

“With the festive season on its way and small independent businesses having a very difficult year, this might be alternative that might help local businesses get through the end of the year. An incentive like this would guarantee local businesses some level of income during what should be a peak part of their year,” she added.

Cllr Ferris also believes that the creation of an online forum, where local producers and restaurants can advertise their products, would be useful.
