WHAT could be the most competitive county championship in years is almost upon us.

The draw for the Garveys Supervalu Senior Football Championship will be made this Saturday and will be live on Radio Kerry at 2:30pm.

The early betting shows that Dr Crokes are favourites for the Bishop Moynihan Cup at 9/4.

They are followed by South Kerry (5/1) and Austin Stacks (15/2).

Kerins O’Rahilly’s are (8/1) and St Brendans (25/1)

First Round matches have been pencilled in for the weekend of May 15.

After whittling down the number of teams in the competition, eight clubs and eight divisional sides will go into the hat.

Three sides from the Tralee area will compete in Kerry’s top club competition.

Kerins O’Rahillys, Austin Stacks and St Brendans who overcame Shannon Rangers in a championship qualifier two weeks ago.

Making up the rest are: Mid Kerry, Kenmare District, Dingle, Milltown-Castlemaine, Feale Rangers, Killarney Legion, Dr Crokes, West Kerry, South Kerry, St. Kierans, Rathmore, Kilcummin and East Kerry.

The championship will be run in a new format this year where the winners of the first Round Draw will play each other and the losers of those first round games will also play each other with the losers of the latter games exiting the championship.
