The craft makers centre on Ashe Street.

THERE was sad news this morning when the news came through that the Craft Makers centre on Ashe Street will close its doors later this month.

The centre which sold items made by local craftspeople, hosted exhibitions and workshops, is closing due to insufficient trade.

A statement was issued by the Manager of the centre, Deirdre Enright, this morning. It reads:

“We wish to announce that Craft Makers will cease trading from 37 Ashe Street on Saturday 24th June next at 6pm.

We have loved offering a retail space that supports work that is of Kerry and we have loved being a part of the Tralee landscape.

Sadly, trade levels currently are not sufficient for us to maintain a permanent presence in the town. We do hope to have a pop up shop at Christmas time and we hope also to run occasional craft workshops and events around the County.

Do pop in to say hi before we close if you can. We want to thank our wonderful customers for your support to date and a thank you also to our suppliers, without whom we would not have had such a lovely gift offering.

To Eileen, Felicia and Karyn, thank you for your hard work and good cheer and to our patrons, the very wonderful Eibhlín and Dick Henggeler, without your kindness none of it would be possible. To join our mailing list please message deirdre@craftmakers.ie.”

The centre opened in Ashe Street back in November 2015.

  1. I’ll be honest over priced. You can’t price out your local market as well as tourists.
