SINN Féin General Election candidate for Kerry, Pa Daly, has called the announced cut to disability services as “unacceptable”.

Disability service providers were recently notified by the HSE that they will be facing a funding cut of 0.7% for 2020.

This will result in a cut of €160,000 for St Mary of the Angels and €60,000 for the Kerry Parents and Friends Association. Speaking this morning, Councillor Daly said this cut was unnecessary and regressive.

“Disability Service providers have recently been informed by the HSE that they will be facing a severe cut in their funding. This cut is completely unacceptable. This unnecessary and regressive cut flies in the face of the government narrative that with them, we have a future to look forward to.

“In real terms, this cut means a €60,000 decrease in funds for groups such as Kerry Parents & Friends Association, who do incredible work throughout the county. These cuts must be immediately reversed. We in Sinn Féin are fully committed to protecting the most vulnerable in our society and not just paying them lip service,” he said.
