SINN Féin TD for Kerry, Pa Daly has called on Eamonn Ryan to provide funding for Kerry waste-water treatment plants.

Deputy Daly said the waste-water treatment plants in Fenit and Castlegregory are completely inadequate and cannot meet the needs of the communities they serve and that Kilcummin does not have a waste-water treatment plant.

“In spite of funding previously being allocated for the waste-water treatment plant at Castlegregory, the work has not been completed,” said Deputy Daly.

“In 2017, Irish Water heralded an investment of €3 million for Kilcummin, which would afford the construction of a  new pumping station and infrastructure needed to connect Kilcummin to the Killarney waste-water network.

“At the moment, Kerry County Council cannot give planning permission for a single house to be built in Fenit as the waste-water treatment plant has not yet been constructed.”

“Previously, contract documents were prepared, 3.3 acres of development land had been acquired and the planning process completed, yet the work has not started,” he added.

“With the long awaited Tralee to Fenit Greenway finally coming together, now is the time to get vital infrastructure in place to encourage future development in Fenit. I am calling on Minister Eamonn Ryan to provide the necessary funding to ensure that each of Castlegregory and Fenit plants receive the upgrades they require, and to ensure the residents in Kilcummin gets the waste-water treatment plant they have been promised.”
