Danny Healy Rae And Brendan Griffin Still Well Short Of Quota After Second Count

IT could be a while yet.

Independent TD Danny Healy Rae didn’t receive as much of his brother Michael’s surplus of 3,873 as expected at the Kerry constituency second count at the Killarney Sports and Leisure Centre this morning.

There are three seats left to be filled and while Danny Healy Rae, Fine Gael’s Brendan Griffin and Fianna Fáil’s Norma Foley are in line to take those seats, it will be this evening before it’s all wrapped up.

Danny Healy Rae received 1,941 votes to put leave him 2,341 votes short of the quota and still behind Griffin who is 2,107 short.

Pa Daly’s surplus of 2,788 will now be distributed to the other candidates in the third count but this is unlikely to elect any candidate so a long afternoon and evening awaits.
