Family and friends of the late Denis O’Connor were present in Connolly Park on Saturday night, after the first day of an event which will always be associated with him – the Lee Strand U13 Football Tournament.
In his memory, the Lee Strand Cup has been re-named the Denis O’Connor/Lee Strand Cup. A photo of him was also unveiled by Denis’ sons, Paul and Denis Junior and it is located in the section of the club where he conducted the weekly lotto draws on Monday nights.

Memories of Denis were recounted by both Club Chairman, Liam Lynch and friend/card playing colleague, Timmy Sheehan.
The Lee Strand tournament continues in the capable of hands of the tournament committee, but we will always remember Denis as a founding member, a true Rockie and friend to all. Scroll down for photos…
