Deputy Daly Asks Council To Open Playgrounds Around The County

SINN Féin TD for Kerry, Pa Daly, has urged the government to provide clarity regarding playground re-openings.

The guidance states playgrounds can be opened with “adequate supervision”, however there are no supervised playgrounds in the county, and Kerry County Council has not been able to open any playgrounds on Monday accordingly.

Speaking yesterday, Deputy Daly said: “Families have sacrificed a lot during lockdown.  I know of numerous constituents who set off with excited children to visit their local playground earlier today, and found them closed.  The disappointment for these children was immense, and equally frustrating for parents.

“If the government could clarify to County Councils that “adequate supervision” must be provided by whomever is bringing the children to the playground, I am sure we can get the playgrounds opened ASAP.

“Everyone is well versed at this stage on physical distancing, use of sanitiser and encouraging children to avoid touching their face.

“Kerry County Council has been doing stellar work with signage and street markings.  This can easily be extended to playgrounds, with appropriate cleaning conducted in keeping with government guidelines. I will be asking Kerry County Council to take a pragmatic approach on this tomorrow.”
