A WEST Kerry man may have missed the excitement of the visiting Top Gear presenters to the peninsula, but he won’t mind after a trip to Dublin resulted in a cash windfall at the weekend.
Diarmuid Begley appeared on RTE’s Winning Steak on Saturday night and came home with €33,000 in prizes for his efforts.
The 53 year old is living in Dingle but is originally from the foot of Mount Brandon. Diarmuid has been a hackney tour operator for 22 years and owns Dingle Shuttle Bus which runs tours around the Dingle Peninsula and the Ring of Kerry.
Diarmuid has two grown up sons, Ryan, 24 and Cathal, 19. Ryan is working in London as the brand ambassador for Dingle Distillery while Cathal is in NUI Galway studying Economics, Computers and Irish.
Diarmuid’s two sons were supporting him in the audience of Winning Streak – his son Cathal and his girlfriend Nikki travelled from England for the show. Diarmuid’s three sisters, Mary- Bridge, Ann and Bernadette and three of his five brothers, Joe, Tomás and Seán were also in attendance to see him win the prizes.
