Dream Comes True For Abbeykillix Camogie Team In Croke Park

ABBEYKILLIX Camogie Club were delighted to be one of the 64 teams chosen out of over 400 to play at Croke Park last week.

The Tesco Camán to Croker event 2022 invited Abbeykillix under 12 team members and their supporters to travel to Dublin for the event. The club is just over three years old and takes in players from the Abbeydorney, Kilflynn and Lixnaw area.

The Camogie Association pulled out all the stops to give the players the ultimate experience from the moment they met them outside the stadium.

The team was led them through Croke Park via the changing rooms and up the iconic steps to the pitch, where many famous players have walked over the years.

Parent, Ann Marie McGrath said; “The day was filled with excitement and anticipation. An excellent opportunity and experience for them all and a great honour made possible by our club.”

The team played games against St Euans Donegal, Ballinscarthy of Cork and Knockaderry of Limerick.

Player Sarah Breen said; “I felt so proud running up the steps and out onto the field for the matches. It was brilliant to represent my local club, and hopefully, I’ll be back someday soon, Ciarraí Abú.”

After the matches, another player, Aoibhe McCarthy talked about her experience, saying; “It was amazing. Everything about it was great. The thrill of playing in Croke Park is once in a lifetime, and I couldn’t be more grateful.”

Player Orlaith Brennan said; “This is the best day of my life so far. I will never forget this day with my friends.” Her mother, Brenda, added, “What an amazing day. To see your child grace the grass on Croke Park was a privilege and a joy. Fantastic memories were made today.”

Club secretary and parent Siobhan Herbert O’Donoghue said; “The club would like to thank the coaches Joe Slattery, TJ Maher and Lisa O’Flaherty, as well as all the mentors, parents, and supporters for making memories that our girls will treasure and share for a long time. It was great to be part of this day with them all.”
