€200,000 Grant For Refurbishment Works At Day Place

A GOVERNMENT grant of €200,000 has been awarded for works at Day Place in Tralee.

Tralee Municipal District Manager, Michael Scannell announced at the Tralee MD meeting on Monday, that the heritage grant was made under the Historical Towns Initiative 2020,

The funds will be used for the refurbishment of the steps and railings. Mr Scannell said great credit was due to Kerry County Council’s Architectural Conservation Officer Victoria McCarthy, for securing the grant.

He said Ms McCarthy engaged with the property owners at Day Place and they agreed to part fund the upgrade of the railings and steps at one of the most historically significant parts of the town.

    We visited Day Place in 2002 from New Zealand after tracing the footsteps of Robert Day, Circuit Judge of Ireland , my husbands 5 th great grandfather.
