€25,000 Granted To Widen Pedestrian Walkway At Beach In Fenit

OVER €114,000 in funding for four Kerry projects has been granted under the Government’s Town and Village Renewal Scheme.

The funding is part of an overall package of €2.8 million in funding being announced today to help rural towns and villages to adapt to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The four Kerry projects to benefit are:
• Dingle: Almost €40,000 to extend Green Street Carpark to compensate for on-street parking spaces lost due to social distancing measures.
• Castleisland: €25,000 for bike stands, outdoor seating and moveable plant displays.
• Fenit: €25,000 to widen pedestrian walkway connecting beach and swimming amenity
• Kenmare: €25,000 to provide easier access to market stalls.

Kerry Fine Gael TD & Deputy Government Chief Whip, Brendan Griffin welcomed the news saying; “This funding is targeted at proposals to benefit communities by altering the streetscapes so that people can shop, work and socialise safely. Further approvals under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme will be announced in the coming weeks.

“I look forward to further funding for Kerry towns and villages in the near future and will be discussing the matter further with the Minister in the coming weeks.”
