GARDAI are warning people to be vigilant after an elderly couple in the Currans area were conned out of thousands of euro on Saturday.
A male called to the home of the couple between 6pm and 7pm that evening, pretending to be a member of An Garda Síochána.
He said he wanted to check and count any money that was in the house and the couple, believing the man to be genuine, produced €2,600 in cash.

The male left the house saying he needed to check the money and never returned. Gardaí are asking people to check on their elderly relatives and neighbours and let them know about this type of crime.
If anyone turns up claiming to be a Garda, they should ask them to produce correct identification and if they have any suspicions to contact their nearest Garda station immediately.
