YESTERDAY was a landmark day for St Brendan’s NS in Blennerville, as the old school was demolished after 84 years of educating generations of locals.

A former pupil decided to mark the opening of the new school with a presentation which, no doubt, will find a place in the great new building.

“My sisters, Michelle and Aisling and I were past pupils at the old school in Blennerville, and have great memories,” said Liam Maguire of Maguire’s Butchers in Caherslee.

“Our two sons Jack and Harry are attending the school so we decided to present the school with a painting of Blennerville in the old days before the windmill was restored and showing the workhouse plus the seven arches in the old bridge. It was painted by a Lohercannon artist Florence O’Connor,” said Liam. A nice gesture during changing times in St Brendan’s.
