Exciting Week For Presentation Students Past And Present

Maebh Pierse, Ciara Sookarry and Isobel Horgan who received scholarships at UL this week.

IT’S been a busy week for current and former Presentation Tralee students.

On Monday three students were presented with scholarships at UL. Maebh Pierse, Ciara Sookarry and Isobel Horgan were presented with awards in a ceremony in Kemmy Business School in the University of Limerick.

Maeve, who is studying Applied Languages was awarded a UL 40 Scholarship. Isobel was also awarded a UL 40 Scholarship and is studying Biological and Chemical Science.

Ciara is studying electrical engineering and was awarded an engineering scholarship as well an Intel scholarship. All three students are well settled in Limerick and are really enjoying their respective courses.

Meanwhile, second year student, Palesa Hlongwane, has reached the national final Poetry Aloud Competition organised by the National Library of Ireland in partnership with UCC.

Palesa Hlongwane who takes part in the Poetry Aloud competition today (Friday).

Palesa will proudly represent her school in the National Library today (Friday) reading poems by Kerry Hardie and Michael Hartnett.

Poetry Aloud is an annual poetry competition for post-primary schools across the island of Ireland with over 1700 students entering the popular competition this year.

Palesa along with  5th year student Jemi John reached the National semi-final in the National Library.

Initially a team of 16 articulate Presentation Tralee students entered the competition in the regional heat in Tarbert Comprehensive.

Presentation Tralee has had many students take part in Poetry Aloud over the years under the stewardship of teachers Norma Foley and Joanna O’Flynn. Kiah Townsend won the National Poetry Aloud Intermediate title in 2001.
