THE Royal Munster Fusiliers Association, in co-operation with the Great War Society and the Cork Branch of the Western Front Association, will stage an exhibition at the Kerry Library Tralee on the 17th and 18th February 2017 entitled “The Royal Munster Fusiliers and the Kerry Connection.”

Tralee military barracks in Ballymullen was the depot of the “Munsters” which recruited in counties Kerry, Cork, Limerick and Clare.  In the First World War, the Regiment fought in France, Gallipoli, Suvla, Silesia, Egypt, Palestine and Jerusalem.  The Regiment was disbanded in 1922.

The exhibition will be formally opened at 2.00pm on Friday, 17th February, by the Mayor of Tralee, Councillor Terry O’Brien, continuing until 5.30pm on that day and will run on Saturday, 18th February from 10.00am until 5.30pm.

The exhibition will consist of general memorabilia related to the First World War, photographs, explanatory panels and specific information on Tralee, as the base of the Regiment, and also on the wider Kerry connection.

On Saturday, a number of researchers will be present at the exhibition who will assist members of the public in locating information on relatives who served with the Regiment or who fought in the First World War.

The Great War Society members provide information on military life in the First World War with the Western Front Association personnel dealing with queries on the war as it was fought in the west.

When a similar exhibition was staged in 2014, it was a major success and it is expected that this exhibition will be equally informative and successful.

Entry is free, and the organisers would be delighted to view any artefacts, photos or letters that people bring along.

They also wish to thank Kerry Library, Tralee for providing them with the premises to stage the exhibition and Kerry County Museum for providing a number of artefacts.
