Fall In Some Areas Of Crime In Kerry During Second Quarter Of 2020

THE latest statistics from the Central Statistics Office shows crime fell in some categories in Kerry in the second quarter of 2020.

The period of April, May and June coincided with the introduction of COVID-19 restrictions in the county, so a decrease was expected in some crimes in the Kerry Division.

There were 27 drink driving offences during the period, compared to 56 in the same period in 2019. However, there were 16 drug driving offences compared to nine in Q2 2019.

Burglary offences fell from 61 in Q2 2019, to 29 this year. Public order and other social code offences were down from 413 in Q2 2019, to 224 this year.

There were 130 attempts/threats to murder, assaults, harassments and related offences from April to June, far down on the 195 in Q2 2019. Assault causing harm were also down from 30 in Q2 2019 to 18 in the same period this year.

Incidents of possession of drugs for sale or supply increased from 23 last year to 37 this year, while incidents of possession of drugs for personal use were up slightly from 138 last year to 142 in Q2 2020.
