THE family of a teenage girl from Tralee who died from a rare form of cancer less than three months ago, are holding a fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House next Sunday in her memory.

Laura Shanahan from Gallowsfield was just 17 years old when she passed away in August as her aunt, Caroline Nammock, explained.

“Laura died just over two months ago from Ewings sarcoma. We just want to give something back to the Ronald McDonald House as she had been a patient up in the Crumlin Children’s Hospital for about three years and stayed there. We want to raise as much money as possible for them,” said Caroline. Ewings sarcoma is a rare bone cancer which affects children and adolescents.

The family decided to organise a 5k charity walk in her memory on Sunday, November 20 at 1.30pm. Sponsorship cards have been issued and people are invited to come along to take part in the walk and donate on the day.

It’s expected that many of Laura’s school friends from Mercy Mounthawk will take part wearing special hoodies in memory of Laura. The route starts from The Brandon Car-Park, up O’Rahillys Villas, up towards Lohercannon and on to Blennerville before finishing back at The Brandon.
