HE may have lost out on a Golden Globe at the weekend, but Michael Fassbender has a chance at winning at an Oscar next month as the nominations have just been announced.
The Killarney man will face off against Bryan Cranston (Trumbo), Matt Damon (The Martian), Eddie Redmayne (The Danish Girl) and the hot favourite Leonardo DiCaprio (The Revenant.
Many commentators feel it’s Di Caprio’s year after being overlooked so many times, but Fassbender’s performance as Steve Jobs has also been universally acclaimed.

Other Irish interests include Saoirse Ronan nominated in the Best Actress category for her turn as Eilis in Brooklyn, Lenny Abrahamson for Best Director for Room, which was also nominated for Best Picture, and author Emma Donoghue nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay for the same film.
The Oscars take place on February 28.
