THE organisers of the Feile na mBláth at The Park Festival in Tralee are launching a new ‘Flowers and Garden’ initiative for this year’s festival in the Town Park in June.

The best gardens in the community competition is being introduced with the support of the Tralee Municipal District and the Community Support Fund provided by Kerry County Council.

The Festival – which runs from June 15 to 17 this year – is looking for entrants from local estates and groups or Tidy Towns groups to apply directly to enter for the Community ‘Post Card’ Garden or ‘Wheelbarrow’ Garden competitions.

These competitions will be judged by external adjudicators and have a cash prize on offer which could help local estates and communities to keep doing the great work already being done in estates and communities around Tralee.

There is also a Herb Garden Competition specifically for local schools to get involved in.

This initiative will attract more interest in the gardening aspect of the festival and will also help to showcase the magnificent gardens within the Town Park and the great work being done by the Park Team there throughout the year.

Féile na mBláth at the Park 2018 will run over three days as opposed to two in previous years and was launched in the Town Park this week by the Mayor of Tralee, Cllr Norma Foley.

‘This is wonderful community festival which is evolving and growing every year. The new competitions this year will give it further impetus and will encourage more people and communities to get involved. I am pleased to see Kerry County Council continuing to support the festival through the Community Support Fund,” said Mayor Foley.

The festival will see all the traditional elements return with a dog show on both days, falconry, archery, scavenger hunt, street theatre, emergency services display, concerts, recitals, medieval living history, set dancing evening and much more.

Applications for all competitions are available from the Tralee Municipal District Offices on Prince’s Quay, from Tralee Chamber Alliance Offices in the HQ Offices on Dominick Street or via the @parkfestivaltralee Facebook page.
