ONE KERRY school this week saw the official opening of a new covered cycle shelter on their grounds, all as part of their pursuit of a 4th Green Flag along with helping to promote European Mobility Week.

St Brendan’s National School in Fenit are this week taking the time to promote walking, cycling and car pooling as different methods of travelling to and from school as part of their campaign.

They were visited on Tuesday by ‘Green School Travel Officer’ Angela Wall, who officially opened the covered cycle shelter in the school.

The shelter has been kindly funded by ‘An Taisce’ and will no doubt delight pupils who will no longer have to deal with slightly soaked bicycles at the end of a long school day.

The new shelter will go a long way towards promoting a new active approach in the school, which by the sounds of their recent exploits shouldn’t be too difficult after some hardy pupils did their best at attempting to walk and cycle to school to support ‘World Car Free Day’ which took place on Tuesday, September 22.
