‘Festival In A Van’ Is Coming To Tralee

The ‘Festival In A Van’ is coming to Tralee on Friday, October 9.

THE Creative Ireland Kerry Programme is working with ‘Festival in a Van’ and will bring live, outdoor entertainment to audiences in Tralee next Friday, October 9.

“Festival in a Van is a novel response to the times we are in,” explains producer, Gemma Tipton. A specially equipped van houses a mini arts venue, kitted out with everything necessary for half-hour, socially distanced performances by top class Kerry musicians.

The performances will take place in open spaces where people can enjoy top quality music whilst adhering to safe social distancing, keeping 2 metres apart at all times.

On October 9th, Soprano Mary Culloty O’Sullivan and well-known trad musician Cormac Begley will perform in Tralee on Friday afternoon and evening (at a time to be confirmed).

October 10th and 11th will see the Festival in a Van taking the show to Killarney. There will be three half-hour concerts at Killarney House on Saturday October 10th at 12pm, 2pm and 4pm, in the Courtyard. Seating will be provided and is on a first come first serve basis.

Sunday October 11th brings Festival in a Van around various locations through Killarney National Park that allow for people to stand apart and safely enjoy world class music.

Musicians featured at these concerts are Sliabh Luachra’s finest, Bryan O’Leary with Brian Mooney and Emma O’Leary.  Dr. Gavan Ring, renowned Tenor, and accomplished harpist & vocalist Marina Cassidy will also perform.

“Festival in a Van is a great initiative, it is designed for duty in these challenging time. The music at these pop up events will certainly enhance the stunning locations in Tralee and Killarney, and bring joy to people hearts, I have no doubt,” stated Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council, Cllr. Patrick O’Connor Scarteen.

“We are delighted to bring this innovative event to Kerry – fantastic performances available for free, in the fresh air and the beautiful surroundings of Tralee and Killarney,” says Kate Kennelly, Arts Officer with Kerry County Council.

These performances in Festival in a Van are funded by Creative Ireland Kerry and supported by Tralee Municipal District and the National Parks and Wildlife Service.
