Film On Debenhams Workers To Be Screened In Tralee This Week

AN award winning film on the Debenhams workers fight for fair redundancy payments is to be screened in Tralee this week.

On April 9th, 2020, nearly 1,000 Irish Debenhams workers, predominantly women, received a generic email telling them their jobs were gone.

Many had given decades of service and would be left fighting for redundancy payments having never stood on a picket line in their lives.  The strike would last 406 days, the longest ever for an Irish industrial dispute.

‘406 Days’  is a multi award-winning documentary which has received many accolades including overall winner of the Audience Award at the 2023 Dublin International Film Festival (DIFF), Best Irish Documentary in the Dublin Film Critics Circle (DFCC) and the Irish Council for Civil Liberties (ICCL) Human Rights film award.

The screening of ‘406 Days’ will take place in Munster Technological University (MTU) Tralee at 7pm on Thursday, March 30. Doors open at 6:30pm.

A panel discussion will take place following the screening with film makers, ex-Debenham’s workers and those who stood on the picket line in support of them. Admission is free and seats can be reserved by clicking here to go to the eventbrite page.
