A BALLYHEIGUE filmmaker is urging Kerry people to bring elderly relatives and neighbours to his feature-length movie which was shot in Kerry.

Patrick Brendan O’Neill from Ballyheigue made ‘The Uncountable Laughter Of The Sea’, which has had its run extended in Tralee Omniplex. The film which celebrates the life of Fr. Padraig O’Fiannachta is running until Thursday, May 12 at 6:50pm nightly. President Higgins and his wife attended the premiere at the Omniplex two weeks ago.

“Nothing would be more brilliant than if people of my generation went out to those of an older generation who they are fond of and brought them along to experience the film in the cinema,” said Patrick Brendan O’Neill.

“It’s not rocket science that we owe a great debt to a lot of these characters, so perhaps get off your arse and go and do it, might be more craic than you think! As the film celebrates the wisdom that can come with age, my aim is to have as many of the older characters of Kerry from the various parishes come or be brought by family or friends to enjoy the magnificent setting of County Kerry seen on the big screen perhaps as never before.”

“From my own experience to date on meeting people after the screening, it is deeply inspiring to hear their generous feedback and excitement and wondering where such and such a place actually is in Kerry,” said the filmmaker.

Fr O’Fiannachta translated The Bible into the Irish Language and is also scholar of Greek, Latin and Welsh. He is now 89 years of age. The film’s score was composed by a five-time Oscar Nominee J. Ralph and has received great reviews.
