You’re spoilt for choice this weekend as regards things to do. County Fair, Enterprise Towns, Darkness Into Light and more…

Friday

1. Fashion at CH…

There is a fantastic night of beauty and fashion planned at CH Chemists tonight with donations to the Kerry Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre. There’s beauty tips from Helen at Lancome, advice on eyewear from Caroline of CH Opticians and fashions from Weardrobe.

Tickets are €5 (redeemable from Lancome), doors open at 7pm.

2. An enterprising event…

Taking place on Friday evening and Saturday morning, the Bank of Ireland Enterprise Towns event at Tralee Sports And Leisure Centre has something for everyone.

Friday night will see Gavin Duffy of Dragons Den fame open the event at 5.30pm, with “An energetic feast of local talent” show directed by Oliver Hurley. This is followed by a business panel discussion  with Dr Edmond Harty, Dairymaster, Caroline McEnery, The HR Suite, Joanna Kelly, Digital Greetings and Sean Ryan, Aspen Grove Solutions.

There will be local fashions on display and Irish music and dancing to bring proceedings to a close at 8.30pm.

On Saturday the fun gets underway at 10.15am with a soccer and GAA blitz with Lee Strand’s Mighty Mikey Milk appearing along with face painters.

There’s a cookery demo from the Culinary Gangsters a Local Hero’s Panel discussion hosted by the legendary Micheal O’Muircheartaigh, will feature panel members: Pat Flanagan, CARA, Elma Walsh, Donal Walsh Foundation, Jim Garvey, Garvey Group and Gemma O’Brien KYDS.

Sports Panel discussion on Saturday hosted by the greatest commentator of all time Micheal O’Muircheartaigh – Panel Members – John Lenihan, Hill Running, Kieran Donaghy, Kerry GAA and Warriors Basketball and Darren Aherne, Manager Kerry U-17 League of Ireland Team. It all ends at 1pm.

Saturday

3. Walk into the light…

It’s going be a be an emotional morning as thousands are expected to take part in the Darkness Into Light event at CBS The Green at 4.15am.

There is a chance to register on Friday at the office on Castle Street from 11am to 3pm. As for the morning itself, the organisers have the following info;

* There is no parking in the school grounds.
* We have 4 car parks, Tralee Omniplex, Aqua Dome, Brandon Car Park & The Festival Dome site.
* Please arrive in plenty of time as we will be starting on time at 4:15am. We recommend 3:30am
* Please observe our new “silent Kilometre” which will be clearly marked.
*Denny Street now has speed bumps, please be cautious and watch your step.
* The town park has uneven pathways in places so please wear appropriate foot wear & be cautious.
* Our final registration day, On Castle Street is open tomorrow from 12:30 to 8pm.
* We have limited t-shirt availability so please register as soon as possible.
* Wrap up warm as the weather forecast is for a lovely clear night BUT at 4am it will be cold.

4. The Championship begins…

Players from Tralee clubs will be in championship action in Austin Stack Park on Saturday evening.

St Brendan’s take on Shannon Rangers at 6.30pm in the Garvey’s Supervalu Kerry SFC qualifier match which should be an interesting encounter between these two divisional sides.

Sunday

5. County Fair time…

The Kingdom County Fair offers up a whole host of competitions and entertainment on Sunday from 12noon to 6pm.

There’s a lot to look forward to for families and competitors alike. Family entertainment includes bouncy castles, kiddies disco, bonny baby, face painting, the kids favourite characters will be there with Kingdom Party Pals and a new addition is the Vortex Tunnel.

There’ll also be live music from Declan Nerney and his band, tug-o-war, sheaf tossing among many other activities. A fun dog show is also a highlight and entries (€5) are taken on the day from 1pm with judging from 2pm.

There will be an Irish dancing display, donkey derby, Tug-O-War, blacksmith, sheaf tossing and vintage. Vintage machinery is a very popular event and of course they will have Olde Time Threshing and tractor balancing.

There will be Home Crafts, Homebaking and Horticulture competitions with a Food Hall and Craft Fair. Tickets are €15 with kids going in free. OAPs and Students are €8.
