The weather is set to be mainly dry on Friday and Saturday so here’s a few things to do over the weekend…

At last! Dry weather…well, until Saturday evening anyway! It’s time to get out and enjoy it while you can so hit the outdoors and get some fresh air if you can.

2. Get on your bike…

Na Gaeil GAA’s annual cycle in aid of the club will take place at 9.30am from their grounds at Killeen and it’s always a good way to spend a fine morning. This will also be an ideal practice cycle for those intending to take part in the Ring of Kerry Cycle.

There are two routes: 40km & 80km. Adult fee: €25; U16 fee: €10 and Family fee: €60. You can register on the morning of the cycle from 8am. There will be soup, sandwiches and refreshments provided for everybody in the clubhouse when the cycle concludes.

3. Check out IT Tralee…

Saturday is Spring Open Day at IT Tralee where prospective students and their parents can get a feel for the college from 11am to 2pm.

There’ll be course talks where prospective students can meet staff for an in-depth look at courses, campus tours led by student ambassadors who will share their experiences of life at third level and a parents seminar where parents can talk to our experienced staff about supporting their son or daughter to make the transition from second to third level education. For more, click here.

4. Family fun in Ballyseedy…

Ballyseedy Garden Centre is the place to be for families as the Kerry Branch of Down Syndrome Ireland (DSI) are set to host the inaugural Unsung Hero charity cycle.

The cycle will pay homage to renowned explorer Tom Crean and will also remember DSI Kerry member Emily Keohane who sadly passed away last year.

The 75km cycle will kick off at 10am from Ballyseedy Home and Garden Centre and will head west where cyclists will stop off along the way in Annascaul at Tom Crean’s former pub, The South Pole Inn for refreshments before returning at 3pm. There will be loads of family entertainment at Ballyseedy during the day.

A host of sporting stars including former Irish rugby player David Wallace and Kerry football stars Aidan O’Mahony, Daniel Bohan, Kieran Donaghy, Killian Young, David Moran, Ronan Shanahan and Barry John Keane will also be in attendance for an exciting spinathon with Radio Kerry broadcasting live from Ballyseedy on Saturday.
