The weekend has arrived and it’s going to be a good one weatherwise. If you feel like getting out, here’s a few suggestions on where to go…

Friday

1. Meet Kerry GAA heroes…

Kingdom Greyhound Stadium will host a Kerry GAA Fundraiser in aid of the Kerry Teams Training Fund with the victorious Kerry senior football team in attendance, as well as the Kerry Senior Hurling Team.

This will be an opportunity to meet all the Kerry stars up close for photos and selfies with Sam, a Best Dressed Lady and a Best Dressed Man competition and great prizes to be won with the Best Dressed Young Kerry GAA Supporter Competition judged by David Clifford.

There’s face painting and other kids activities on the night, fabulous raffle prizes up for grabs and music before and after racing. Gates open at 6.30pm with the first of 12 races off at 7.46pm.

2. Forza Italia!…

Automobili Italia Tralee will take place on Friday and Saturday.  Close to 100 cars, motorbikes and even tractors and vans will assemble at the FBD Insurance/Peevers Slye Cotter car park on Dan Spring Road on Friday from 6pm for an evening of craic and conversation.

A live DJ will entertain fans – and all are welcome to attend – and it promises to be a great evening of Italian car culture.

There are several Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Alfa Romeos confirmed for the show. Several Ducati motorcycles will be on display and there is hope that at least one Aprilia road racing bike will be there too.

The first cars are expected in Tralee after 6pm on Friday and funds will be raised for the Irish Wheelchair Association. The event also takes place on Saturday at 11am on Saturday.

3. Championship action…

Round 2 games in the Garveys Supervalu Kerry SFC take place this weekend with a home tie for Austin Stacks against West Kerry (throw-in 6pm).

The Rockies will be hoping for another win after their victory in the local derby last weekend against Na Gaeil.

Meanwhile St Brendan’s also have a home game against Templenoe in Ardfert (throw-in 6pm) in what is a must-win game for the divisional side.

Sunday

4. Tralee clubs hoping to keep championship hopes alive…

The other Tralee teams in action in the Garveys Supervalu Kerry SFC will play home games on Sunday.

Na Gaeil entertain Mid-Kerry at Killeen with a 1.30pm throw-in time while Kerins O’Rahillys take on Dingle in Strand Road at 3.30pm. With both local teams suffering defeats in the opening round, they really need to register wins here.

The Listowel Harvest Festival of racing kicks off on Sunday with tens of thousands descending on north Kerry over the next week.

Radio and TV personality Elaine Kinsella will judge the Lyrath Estate Hotel Best Dressed Couples Competition on opening day.

With a prize fund valued at €2,000, it is certainly worth dressing to impress as Elaine will be out and about on the course from 1pm looking for couples of all ages.

Sunday is also family day sponsored by Garvey’s SuperValu and this year’s entertainment includes the free Wooly Farm with chicks, guinea pigs, hens, ducks, rabbits, lambs, piglets and pygmy goats, plus Roo the Llama.

Giggles Entertainment will return with a mini Disco, face painting, free balloons and Coco Melon & Mickey Mouse will meet and greet all the children as they arrive.

The opening day’s card is sponsored by Kerry Group and the feature race is the Kerry Group Steeplechase €40,000 with the 1st Race off at 1.40pm. Visit www.listowelraces.ie for more information.
