Five Things To Do This Weekend

It’s the weekend before the St Patrick’s festivities but there’s still a lot to do in Tralee and beyond…

Friday

1. Opera comes to town…

Irish National Opera brings Thomas Adés darkly comic opera, Powder Her Face to Siamsa Tíre. The work has been hailed as “a modern classic” by The Times and The Observer.

Four singers bring a staggering 16 roles to life while the 15-member Irish National Opera Orchestra under conductor Timothy Redmond swarm through the style shifting world of Thomas Adès in a work that features the world’s most notoriously explicit aria.

Irish National Opera’s artistic director Fergus Sheil sees Adés as “arguably the most prominent opera composer of our day. Powder Her Face was written when he was just 24 and is a youthful explosion of energy and creativity. He’s the composer of the moment, and it’s unprecedented to have somebody of his stature at one of our shows in Tralee, which is a very long remove from New York’s Metropolitan Opera”.

It’s an absolute must for Opera fans so for bookings click here

Quiz master Michael O’Connor from Blennerville is promising  a lively and entertaining set of questions, so a fun night is guaranteed.

Entry to the quiz is €20 per tale of four and there will also be a raffle on the night for some great spot prizes in an effort to raise as much money as possible for the charity.

3. CBS The Green bid for glory…

CBS supporters.

The death of young Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne student, Aodhán Ó Conchúir resulted in the postponement of the Corn Uí Mhuirí final two weeks ago.

The rescheduled Munster Colleges Final takes place at 1pm in Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney and CBS The Green will be hoping for all the support they can get in from students past and present. They’re facing a very good Dingle school side so it should be a fascinating encounter.
