Four North Kerry Schools Showcase Project In Galway

A LOCAL ‘Digital Cluster’ of four North Kerry Primary Schools showcased its virtual reality project at the Teaching Council “Féilte” event in N.U.I.G. on Saturday last.

The collaborative work of the four schools was on display and the demonstration on the use of Virtual Reality technology as a motivational tool for teaching and learning in the classroom attracted huge attention in the exhibition centre.

This year’s “Féitle” theme was “Education 360: Learning from Others”. The 50 showcase projects on display were chosen from 150 applicants and are exemplary of the highest standards of excellence and professionalism in teaching practice.

Innovation within teaching and learning is core to the Féilte experience. The “Digital Cluster” is supported by Professor Joseph Walsh of IT Tralee.

The four schools  involved in The Virtual Reality Explores Digital Cluster were supported at Féilte by Conor Kearney, Principal  Abbeydorney N.S., Mary Brosnan,Principal  Tralee Educate Together, Cliona Fitzmaurice, Principal  Scoil Mhuire de Lourdes, Lixnaw, Betty Stack,Principal  Ardfert N.S. and Maire O’Connell, Deputy Principal Ardfert N.S. who is lead Co-ordinator of the project. Maire O’Connell gave an official presentation to all the teachers and educators in attendance.

For its collaboration between teachers and between schools, the “Digital Cluster” has been shortlisted for an award at the inaugural “Teachers Inspire” event sponsored by D.C.U. and the Teaching Council.  The Award Ceremony will take place at a Gala Ball at the Helix,DCU next Friday night October 4th.
