Fr Pat Ahern To Be Honoured By Kerry County Council

HE has made a massive contribution to arts in the county over the years and now Fr Pat Ahern will be honoured by Kerry County Council with a Civic Reception on Monday.

Fr Ahern will be honoured for his outstanding contribution to the artistic, cultural and literary tradition of the county.

A native of  Moyvane, Fr. Pat Ahern is a founder member of Siamsa Tire, the National Folk Theatre established in 1973.

Fr. Pat was educated at  St Michael’s College, Listowel,  St. Brendan’s College, Killarney,  and St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth and studied music at UCC under the late Professor Fleischmann, graduating in 1962.

He helped develop Siamsa Tíre into the success it is today and was artistic director there until 1997. He also took part in broadcasting projects with Radio Kerry and RTE and was involved in a number of productions at the Abbey Theatre.

The civic reception takes place next Monday, February 19 at Council Chambers in Kerry County Council, Rathass, at 1.30pm.
