THERE’S good news for shoppers as the annual free parking period for Christmas is returning in Tralee.

Parking will be free from 1pm in all areas where pay and display currently operates, both on-street and in Kerry County Council car parks. This will be effective from Monday, December 4 to Saturday, January 6, 2017 inclusive. People are encouraged to park responsibly.

Listowel has a more generous incentive for shoppers as there will free car parking after 1pm each day in Listowel from December 1st to 16th, but from Monday 18th to Monday January 1st, car parking will be free each day, subject to a 2-hour limit.

The Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council, Cllr John Sheahan, said the temporary suspension of parking charges was an effort on behalf of the council to encourage support for local businesses over the Christmas season.

“As has happened in other years, Kerry County Council is providing some amendments to the parking charges regime to give a small but significant incentive to shoppers to shop local and support local businesses at Christmas time.

“Every euro spent locally supports local jobs and keeps money in the county’s economy. I would encourage people to avail of the free parking provision in the coming weeks and to consider the benefits of shopping locally this Christmas,” he said.
