THE issue of traffic management in the O’Rahillys Villas/Basin Road/Rae Street area came up again at the Tralee Municipal District meeting on Friday at council buildings.

Both Cllr Toireasa Ferris and Cllr Norma Foley had motions before the council related to the traffic situation in the area.

Cllr Foley wanted a traffic management plan drawn up for the Basin Road, Basin View and Rae Street and a resolution of the Low Field traffic problems.

“The residents are going out of their minds with stress and worry. It needs to be a priority,” said Cllr Foley.

Cllr Terry O’Brien had brought up the issue before in the Council and expressed his frustration at the lack of progress by management.

“They have to do something faster because someone is going to get killed down there. It’s crazy,” he said, referring to Basin Road being ‘like a racetrack’ and said there was an accident at the Low Field junction before the last meeting of the council.

Council, in reply, said their Roads Design Office will undertake a traffic count and speed analysis soon to establish if traffic calming is required in accordance with their policies and procedures.
