The new play area at St Ita’s and St Joseph’s School.

THE new extension to St Ita’s and St Joseph’s School was opened last Wednesday and a global giant has stepped in to make sure the kids there have a great place to play during breaks.

Two new post-primary ASD rooms, a multi-sensory room, social space, play area and staff room make up the new extension, officially opened by Fr Patsy Lynch (click here for previous story).

Staff, students and their parents enjoyed a wonderful celebration at the school in Balloonagh and while the Department of Education and the Board of Management were responsible for funding the building of the extension, Kerry Group have kindly donated a sizeable sum of money to equip a new play area at the school.

“Kerry Group have been fantastic and they are giving us €15,000 to equip our new play area,” said Principal of St Ita’s and St Joseph’s, Grace Sheahan, speaking to TraleeToday.ie at the opening of the extension last Wednesday.

“We had no money to equip it and they came to the school a few weeks ago and saw the hard work of the staff. They then decided to put forward the money for the playground ” said Ms Sheahan.

A wonderful gesture which will no doubt be enjoyed by students at the school for years to come.
